At 131 years old, Lansing Matinee Musicale (LMM) is one of Michigan’s oldest arts organizations and has been a 501(c) (3) charity since 1951. LMM is operated by volunteer members and supported by charitable gifts and bequests. LMM is affiliated with the National Federation and Michigan Federation of Music Clubs.
Our vision is to see that participation in music and the performing arts will be assured for our diverse community.
Welcome to Lansing Matinee Musicale, a community of musicians, teachers, students, and arts lovers dedicated to preserving and promoting music and the performing arts for all.
We invite you to join us in celebrating, supporting, and sharing the joy of music by becoming a member of Lansing Matinee Musicale (LMM) — a dynamic organization dedicated to enriching the cultural life of our community through music education, performance, and outreach. As a member, you’ll become part of a tradition over a century strong, where music lovers, educators, performers, and advocates come together to make a meaningful impact. Our work is driven entirely by volunteers and supported through memberships, charitable gifts, and bequests. Your involvement helps us carry out our mission and expand access to the performing arts for all.
Here’s just a glimpse of the programs your membership supports:
Project Crescendo!
Our signature outreach program supports music education in the Lansing Public School District by providing instruments, guest performances, and exceptional programming for students in grades K-8. We work directly with music teachers to identify and meet their classroom needs.
Emerging Artist Awards
Held biennially, this competition supports talented young artists (ages 21–28) pursuing careers in music, dance, or theatre. These awards help launch the next generation of performers.
Scholarships
LMM administers several scholarships, including the Theda Assiff-MacGriff Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Dance, the Phyllis Nelson Fund, and the Emerging Artist Fund — all designed to encourage and support arts education.
The Morning Glory Singers
Our spirited vocal ensemble shares the gift of music with the community, performing at senior centers, churches, and civic events — spreading joy wherever they go. All are welcome to join!
Annual Festival Program
This non-competitive event gives musicians of all ages the opportunity to perform, receive feedback, and grow in their musical journey. Participants can earn Festival Cup Awards as they progress.
Monthly Programs
LMM also hosts engaging monthly performances and presentations that bring together artists and audiences in celebration of music and the performing arts.
As a member, you’ll receive updates on our programs and events, opportunities to volunteer or participate in performances, and the satisfaction of helping ensure that music and the arts continue to thrive in the Lansing area.
